Welcome to my home-made site! I'm Mr Sketchum, the London caricaturist 'for hire'; my ordinary name is Alfie Deliss, but please - call me Mr Sketchum!

Over the past nineteen years I've been booked to draw caricatures at some 2500 private parties (!!) in London & all over the country, drawing lots of on-the-spot "lightning sketches" & handing them out absolutely free.

Guests join in as the subjects, as sardonic commentators, and as spectators of the (mis)representations taking shape in nothing flat...and then with a few wisecrack-assisted penstrokes are presented with eye-popping party gifts - which by simply having fun, they all just played a part in creating.

It's impossible to predict what gigs will be like - some can be quite surreal! I'm fortunate to have the opportunity to foster a good atmosphere in all sorts of weird & wonderful places. Mix'n'mingling, working table-to-table over dinners and sometimes seated from one spot, all I need is pens, paper and a smile (I can work with fake).

I'm no stranger to county-to-county trekking. From my 'London Caricatures HQ and Nerve Centre'™, I've zigzagged to & from parties all across the UK since 1999. As Network Rail blare out from their Tannoys®: "It's a tough job, but somebody's got to do it!"

As well as giving their verdicts on my cartoon portraits (I don't mind! *he says*), guests adore rejoicing when they've come out well, or ribbing one-another over who looks hilarious, making for spontaneous cheeky repartee which, in a funny old way, can really bring people together.

"Everyone loved your "works of art". We were really impressed with the jaw-dropping likenesses, long after you'd gone they were making the rounds to howls of laughter. Hilarious!"

Geoff & Lucy, Brighton

"Thanks for last night Alfie, Kim was touched to be given such a great memento of her ten years with the team at Hilton. Everyone had fun & thought it was a brilliant idea."

Alexandra Dumoulin, Hilton Group

(about a leaving gift done for her colleagues at their local bar)

Most of my caricatures are of "singletons", but naturally sometimes couples & groups wish to be immortalised together. As long as I can be sure of not getting too tied up with one set of guests I'm happy to oblige.

If you like I can preprint graphics and/or a message of your choice onto each sheet of paper I use ~ to mark the occasion, distinguish a brand, convey the ethos of a campaign, or simply to add a stylish personal touch.

I draw on heavy A4 laser paper, and present every caricature inside a fancy clear splash-proof top'n'side-opening document folder (none of that punched plastic pocket tat :)

"Give her a body like Baywatch ~ and a face like Crimewatch!!"

Anonymous (heartily bellowed at me from the other end of the room by a fellow at a Warburtons Bakery event)

I'm there to please, not to punish, and anyway, with some people, whatever I draw the real thing is always going to be funnier! In all sreiousness though, the truth is by nature I favour ladies, capturing genuine likenesses that are fun, but often quite kind. It's the gentlemen who happily supply me with comedy raw material, simply by being naturally amusing.

"What is it he does again?"

Mr Sketchum's mum

By rapidly establishing the relative proportions, then injecting only as much broad-brush exaggeration as is needed for emphasis or effect, my caricature style skips a fine line between realism & farce.

Picking up on and highlighting those fleeting but uniquely characteristic faces my subjects pull, I create likenesses so fantastically convincing they look more like you than you do!!

~ My "live" caricatures suit any occasion (although I've not worked at a séance - yet...) ~ Here are the three types of event that I sketch at the most: ~

Weddings are fab, and my fave event to attend. I get a buzz going, and provide personal keepsakes by mix'n'mingling during drinks, winding my way around the wedding breakfast tables, and when things become more of a party I'm in high demand since I make guests crack up so much.

"Even superb wedding photographs can’t capture the sides to you that Mr Sketchum's sketches do!" ~ Me

"Hi Alfie ~ Me and Al can't thank you enough! You are brilliant and your sketches are Hilare! Every single guest loved your work and thanks too for squeezing my two little pest sisters in at the end! Thanks again so much ~ Tanya and Alan :-)"

Big parties mean I can methodically "work the room", "pinball style" (!) by animating and bouncing off group after group. Smaller gatherings are a treat, as they're good-natured affairs where I'm amongst family, friends and colleagues who'll get on famously anyway, but with me there they have a riot!

More on party caricatures ~

As well as adding ice-breaking laughter to your event, I supply original talking points, personalised artwork (with your branding if that's useful), and function as a 'human marketing tool' (!) by assisting you in creating events which simultaneously entertain, generate awareness of, and reflect well on your organisation.

"Could you stop flaring your nostrils at me just for a few seconds?"
Mr Sketchum

"How sweet! I put my face in your hands!"

Andrew Logan, jewellery sale, his place

I took my first booking to sketch at a madcap charidee "Bachelor and Spinster Ball" whilst still studying at Chelsea College of Art. Thanks to the outré mêlée of carousing Débs and their potted Delights sketching amid the chaos wasn't boring and soon, *ahem*, my magnetic personality rose to the fore.

Now, with nineteen years' full-time experience as a "live" (on-the-spot/not quite dead yet) caricature artist for hire, delightfully wicked sketches, and an incredibly pleasant, modest personality, I've achieved total mastery at the fine Art of...almost managing to get out of the way of waiters!

"Find a job you love and you'll never have to work again."
